How can you benefit from virtual visitation?

| Aug 3, 2018 | Child Custody

As a noncustodial parent, there is nothing worse than the thought of not getting to spend as much quality time with your child as you would like.

Even with a visitation schedule in place, you know how difficult it can be to stay current with everything going on in your child’s life. This is even more so the case if your ex-spouse is making the situation more difficult than it has to be.

With the help of technology, you may be able to take a step in the right direction. Through virtual visitation, you can stay in touch with your child, even when you’re not in the same location.

Some of the many ways virtual visitation can be used to benefit your relationship include:

  • To see your child face to face when you’re unable to visit in person
  • To read a bedtime story
  • To assist with homework or some type of extracurricular project
  • To witness special events, such as sports games or recitals, live (as opposed to hearing about them later)

Despite the many benefits of virtual visitation, you don’t want to get into the habit of letting this replace personalized interaction. You still need to spend time with your child in person to ensure a strong relationship into the future.

If the other parent is making it difficult to spend time with your child, review your parenting agreement with a focus on the visitation schedule. If you’re unable to work things out on your own, learn more about your legal rights and the steps you can take to enforce the agreement.
