How should you tell your spouse you want a divorce?

| Dec 16, 2016 | Divorce

No married individuals look forward to the day when they ask their spouse for a divorce. However, you could find yourself in this position at some point in the future.

If you realize that the time to ask for a divorce has come, there are a few things you can do to make the process a bit less stressful. Here are some tips to follow:

— Be clear with your intentions. The last thing you want to do is beat around the bush. Instead, be sure that your spouse is aware that you are asking for a divorce and that you intend on moving forward in the near future.

— Time it right. Don’t wait to tell your spouse that you want a divorce. Instead, once you are sure that this is the right move, you should bring the conversation to light. Along with this, choose the right time to have the discussion.

— Be serious about safety. If you think your spouse could become angry to the point of being violent, you need to ask for a divorce in a public place or in front of a therapist. Also, you could consider having the conversation over the phone.

If you follow these tips, you’ll find it much easier to ask your spouse for a divorce. This won’t eliminate all of the stress and challenges, but it will definitely put your mind in a better place.

Once you have this conversation out of the way, you can learn more about the divorce process and what to expect as it moves forward.
