What steps will you take to ask for a prenuptial agreement?

Are you looking forward to your wedding day? Do you have a lot to get done between now and then?

At some point, you may realize that you have to ask your partner for a prenuptial agreement. This is not always easy to do, but there are steps you can take to ease the stress associated with the process. Consider the following;

— Give yourself plenty of time. You don’t wait to spring a prenuptial agreement on your partner a few weeks before the wedding. Instead, you should discuss this as far in advance as possible.

— Talk things through. Don’t assume that what you want to include in the prenuptial agreement is the same as your partner. You should be open to deciding on the terms together.

— Be honest. You should be honest with regard to what you are trying to accomplish with a prenuptial agreement.

— Talk about concerns. It goes without saying that your partner may have some concerns about signing a prenuptial agreement. At the same time, you may have some questions in mind as well.

Along with the above, leave yourself enough time to make changes if necessary. For example, the first prenuptial agreement that you draft may not end up being the same as the one that you sign.

If you realize that a prenuptial agreement is a must, it’s important that you take the right steps when discussing this with your partner. Along with this, you can seek out professional help when it comes time to draft the agreement and review the terms.
