Seeking help with your premarital agreement

On Behalf of | Oct 8, 2014 | Prenuptial Agreements

Some individuals and couples in Florida and across the nation balk at the idea of a premarital agreement. They believe the agreement takes away from the romance and commitment of the marriage process. When done correctly, however, a premarital agreement can actually enhance commitment to one another.

Being willing to sign a premarital agreement means that you want to ensure the ongoing safety, stability and happiness of your partner. Hopefully, your partner wants to do the same for you. Though a common and useful function of a premarital agreement is to ensure individuals are financially stable if the marriage comes to an end, an agreement can also help lay out some expectations for the marriage itself.

Prenuptial agreements have included information about whether or not adult children may live with the couple in the future, how decisions about pets may be made or where couples agree to live. There’s not a lot that can’t be included in a premarital agreement, and sitting down to hash out an agreement can help couples discover areas of communication that may need some work.

Going through the process of a premarital agreement with legal blinders on isn’t a good idea, however. Getting help from an experienced party with an agreement can ensure couples are satisfied with the outcome of an agreement and may help reduce tensions and arguments later should the agreement come into play.
