Custody case involving Nazi-named children takes new twist

Heath and Deborah Campbell of New Jersey first garnered national media attention in 2009 after a grocery store refused to engrave the name of their son on a birthday cake.

The boy's name? Adolph Hitler.

Two years-plus later, child custody of young Adolph -- along with the couple's three other children -- resides with the state. Adolph and sisters JoyceLynn Aryan Nation and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie have been with foster care families for 33 months. Adolph's brother -- Hons, born just last month -- was taken into state custody on November 17.

Heath Campbell says that the state's action is retaliatory and based solely on the names of his children.

"It's 33 months and we are still fighting," he says concerning the ongoing custody battle regarding his three older children. As to the state's protective custody of newborn Hons, Campbell flatly states that, "They kidnapped my kid."

New Jersey authorities beg to differ. Court records state that both parents were themselves victims of childhood abuse and that a trend of previous violence in the home was clearly established. Child services representatives state that there were legitimate issues of child abuse and neglect and that the children were removed solely because of the prior domestic violence.

In 2010, a state appellate court ruled that removal was justified based on clear evidence of abuse in the couple's home.

Campbell says that, notwithstanding any outcome concerning his children, he will not take steps to legally change their names.
