Important things to know in the first year of divorce

On Behalf of | Sep 24, 2015 | Divorce

Are you approaching a divorce in Florida, and are you just wondering what that first year is really going to be like? If so, you’ll be glad to know what other people in the same position wish they’d been told prior to the split:

— It can be very hard. It’s fine not to be perfect now that you’re on your own, so don’t feel like you have to be.

— This doesn’t mean you’ll never be with anyone ever again. It feels very final at the time, but you can meet other people—and may even get married again. In fact, some people quickly find that dating again is a lot of fun.

— Parents and friends who may not approve of the divorce will eventually move past it and get over it.

— Your relationship with your children is going to change. This is a huge process, and you need to embrace it and always think about what is best for them.

— You’ve gained many things, as well. A lot of people think only about negative terms, such as the relationship that was lost. It’s important to also remember that you have new opportunities and freedoms.

— The marriage didn’t work, but you don’t have to think of yourself as a failure. Sometimes, things just don’t work, even if you did everything right.

— It’s fine to take time to work through it all and figure it out. Don’t expect to know everything right away, and don’t feel bad if you don’t.

To make your divorce as easy as possible, be sure you look into all of your legal rights.
