No Christmas cheer between actress Winslet, men’s rights group

If internationally known movie star Kate Winslet is having a Christmas party this year, chances are that the invitation list doesn’t include any activists for men’s rights groups.

Especially an organization known as Fathers4Justice.

That group, which uses the acronym F4J, has made Winslet the central focus of a holiday campaign that seeks to publicize fathers’ rights in family law matters, particularly child custody and visitation.

Here’s why.

Winslet, who gave birth earlier this month to her third child, recently gave an interview in which she discussed her views on shared parenting. Her comments were like a gift from Santa to F4J, which quickly featured them in an ad blitz spotlighting custody during the Christmas holiday season.

“[M]y children live with me, that is it,” stated Winslet. She added that they “don’t go back and forth; none of this 40/50 time with the mums and dads.”

In retrospect, Winslet likely wishes she had phrased those words just a bit differently. Fathers4Justice gladly seized upon them by responding with a poster campaign featuring Winslet’s picture accompanied by these words: “Kate, every child deserves a father this Christmas.”

The men’s action group also stated that Winslet’s words clearly reveal her lack of support for shared parenting and a father’s inclusion in child rearing.

One media article noted Winslet’s lack of response to the fathers’ rights campaign, with others noting comments from her attorneys alleging that a lawsuit might be filed against F4J for making misleading statements and defaming the movie star.
